Lingerie Football League: Chicago Bliss beat Miami Caliente 29-19 in debut

These women can play, and they hit hard too.

The Chicago Bliss football team kicked off its inaugural Lingerie Football League season Friday night with a 29-19 win over the Miami Caliente at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates in a 30-minute game that featured hard hits, blitzes, 40-yard spirals and plenty of touchdowns.

Legendary Bears coach Mike Ditka, who has an ownership stake in the league, said before the game that he's impressed by the level of competition. "They're not NFL-caliber, but they're not supposed to be," he said.

Players wear slight shoulder pads, lacrosse-style helmets, knee and elbow pads and, in the case of the Bliss, orange shorts and modified sports bras.

Bliss running back Saran Dunmore, 34, said the players felt they had something to prove Friday night. "Some people may have been expecting powder puff football and no tackling. I got hit pretty hard a few times," she said. "I'm so proud of my team. I can't wait to get out there and play again."...Chicago Tribune
